June Growing Tips

What's going on in June?

Summer is well and truly here by now. There’s still loads to do in the garden but this is the perfect time to take a step back, and acknowledge your progress and what you’ve achieved so far this year. And then make sure you’re enjoying the fruits of your labour!

You’ll be eating healthier with all of your organically grown fruit and vegetables, along with more leaves being ready to harvest for those fresh summer salads. Notice how your food bills are reduced as you’re eating your own home grown food.

And make sure you’re also keeping that Vitamin D topped up by staying on top of all of the outside jobs.

The weather in June

With loads of summery sunny days, we can also expect it to start getting pretty warm, so keep an eye on vulnerable areas that may need further shading.

June is one of the driest months, so make sure you’re (responsibly) watering all of your young vegetable plants if you want them to succeed and sprout throughout the summer.

Main things to accomplish

More Succession Sowing will ensure a steady stream of fruit and veg for the year, so try and keep on top of that. Due to the increased temperatures and sun, you’ll need to think a bit more about managing your little beauties this month; think plenty of shade, water, and where relevant, plant food.

Also try and tidy as you go – if you’re clearing out damaged/ dead plants and detritus, don;’t just leave it lying around but make use of it in the compost heap.

And if don’t forget about making the most of old household items as quirky garden features and growing spaces! Check out our blog on Upcycling for inspiration!
